Mr. Cee’s Tropical Fantasy

A beverage truck was parked near my bodega delivering what appeared to be this drink called Tropical Fantasy. What really caught my eye was a HUGE image of Mr. Cee on the back pointing at me drinking his Tropical Fantasy branded beverage, The Finisher! I didn’t have a camera on me and search as I may, I couldn’t find an image remotely close to the ad so we actually called the Brooklyn Bottling Group who graciously laced us with the image. Though we found out the promotion of the drink is over and they may have even discontinued The Finisher, this needed to be documented nonetheless. Here’s a gem from Wikipedia about Tropical Fantasy

Tropical Fantasy is an inexpensive soft-drink, originally from Brooklyn, New York. Its low price of 25¢ per 20-ounce bottle led to its success in the 1990s. Tropical Fantasy was initially popular in inner city areas, especially those with dense African-American and Hispanic populations. The company did not employ large marketing campaigns and used simple store displays and low prices to sell its drinks. This made the product almost invisible to consumers not living in areas where the beverages were sold.

Damn, why can’t that shit still be 25¢!? And why can’t I find The Finisher? That could’ve very well become the official Bushwick Social Club beverage! Truly an exclusive BK gem here people. Don’t sleep.

Gully Web Politics

Gully.  Gully, gully gully.  Obama’s web presence is so gully.  Barack launched a website called Fight The Smears which essentially aims to address attacks upon his person and campaign.  It’s a simple, clean, fresh looking website consistent with the Illinois Senator’s whole brand.  Officially gone are the days in which the time spent in interviews and debates are wasted defending against smears which the candidate has been attacked.  Now, it’s “Go to my website about that.”  Gully.

Estelle’s “American Boy” Video

I would’ve like to have knocked this out in a more timely fashion but alas, here I am left with my nearly passe commentary on this Estelle joint. I first heard Big Spanish rock this track on Hot97 a few months ago and it’s only now that I actually first saw the video which to be honest, I’m a disappointed in. Loving the song, no qualms there whatsoever. And to really cover the bases, the video is not bad by any means. It’s just that there feels to me like a serious lack of reached potential in which this song would inspire. First off, what is Kanye doing with that creepy talking into Estelle’s ear Ying Yang Twins shit? It doesn’t fit. I just picture planes, great skyline views, travel, fresh dancing and good flash animation. Here I’m left with Kanye trying to be a pimp with his fur and a corny array of “American boys” Estelle sitting on a couch with paint on the wall. Although I do like the shadow taking a life of its own effect as an upside. And overall, this song is one of my favs for 08.

True Story

What I’d like to focus on here is the syntax of this message; “… so we can’t any staff to stay?”  I believe the desired word would be “get” which would go in between the “can’t” and the “any.”  Get your vocab up as Bun B would say.
