MuxTape

MuxTape

I use sell mixtapes but know I run a blog.  That will be my new anthem and Mux Tape will be my new way of putting mixes together to share with my friends (who are all internet nerds).  This is just plain smart. I only know one person who still uses a tape player, and he lives all the way in Rhode Island.

Check out this mix from Bushwick Social Club contributor Joero:  http://joero.muxtape.com/

Third Coast Classics

Barney, Lil' Dap & Bushwick Bill

Barney Canson (above with Bushwick Bill and Lil’ Dap) stopped by the Bushwick Social Club today and laced us with some good information about Bushwick Bill.  I highly recommend this article.

We found out that Mr. Canson hosts a show on WNYU.org called Third Coast Classics.  The show features the best of Southern Hip Hop (yeah that’s right, the Gulf Coast counts).  We highly recommend it.

The previous post regarding Bushwick Bill received a comment that brought into question Bushwick Bill’s origin of birth.  Upon referencing the almighty and all knowing bedrock of information, Wikipedia, we realized it listed Bushwick Bill’s “official” name as, ahem…

Dr. Wolfgang Vincent Gobin Bushwickin the Barbarian Mother Funky Stay High Dollar Billstir

… and it said he’s from Jamaica.

E-Thuggin

Whether you’ve been in the can personally or learned what you know from movies & TV, there’s a few prison rules that we’re all relatively familiar with:

  • Don’t drop the soap
  • No crying
  • No snitching
  • This is not really a rule, although it’s generally understood that it’s a bad idea to hide your shank up your rectum

But there’s a new gray area that one of Queen’s Bridge’s infamous is traversing during his time in the joint: blogging.  Prodigy is periodically updating Vibe’s website with some thoughts and feelings from the inside.  His most recent post covers topics such as WTC conspiracy theories, ritualistic murder and statements such as:

“I HAVE ACTUAL PICTURES AT HOME OF EUROPEANS INSIDE THE PYRAMIDS, TEMPLES AND TOMBS REPAINTING HIEROGLYPHICS AND DRAWINGS ON THE WALLS.”

… and yes, all 2,852 words are capitalized.

We here at the BSC want to send props to Prodigy for embracing the world of new media in connecting with fans and the world while serving out his bid.  But looking at the interim, the question is, will the lifers embrace Prodigy’s blogging or Prodigy himself?

No Love To The Phillies and Paper Like Jon Travolta?

The Roots - Rising Up (Feat. Wale & Chrisette Michele)

Ok… there’s a lot we’ve got to get off of our chest on this one. First of all, we love The Roots. And this is their 9th studio album? C’mon now. There is an incredibly small number of Hip Hop groups who have been able to put out solid releases every time and remain relevant to the game still. Serious props to ?uestlove and Black Thought and the rest of the legendary massive (we still see you Leonard Hubbard!).

Now this isn’t the first time Black Thought has ever worn a Yankees hat but possibly one of the first times he’s rocked one in a music video. And to further our Major League Baseball cap pontifications (see post on Expos Hats), it just seems like the Phillies could use the the branding support from one of the Brotherly Love City’s shiniest stars. Or maybe it’d be better to see ?uestlove pop one of these on over his fro-y domepiece.

Moving on… Among the contributors to this blog, you may hear Black Thought to be considered among the infamous Top 5 MC’s ranking system. But listening to Rising Up, there was a line that really put the “?” above our heads:

“Put your glass up in the toast position
We gettin’ paper like Jon Travolta get it
And the funk is wit it and we supposed to get it”

… getting paper like Jon Travolta get it? Now, there’s no question Jon Travolta has got paper as is described on knowyournetworth.com. Wikipedia states he even made $20 mill alone for Ladder 49, in ‘04. Who even remembers that movie? So the point is, it’s not that Jon Travolta DOESN’T get paper, but the question at hand is the relevancy of the line. Perhaps “gettin’ paper like Dunder Mifflin” would be a wittier and more relevant metaphor to getting paper as opposed to Jon Travolta.

Nice video though.
